Our Story

Lumen Coffee opened in the fall of 2017 in northwest Rochester as the culmination of a local firefighter’s vision to provide convenient, high quality coffee, with a local connection and an emphasis on ethical sourcing. As a lifelong Rochester area native, my family and I value community connection, collaboration, and working toward improved environmental sustainability.

Our efforts started by using organic, fair trade coffee beans, local milk, and locally sourced sweeteners as available, such as honey and maple syrup. We offer an organic pasture-grazed milk option and a not-too-shabby discount if you bring your own mug. We also offer much of our nitrogen-rich organic waste for composting. Please ask us how to get some…our compost pile is growing faster than we can use it!

As part of our effort to collaborate with other local businesses we’ve established a budding relationship with Sweet House Bakery.
